This section of the stage 3 exam demonstrates your practical abilities and knowledge on all aspects of tack. To ensure you are up to industry speed and standard, repeat these practical task until you are proficient.

Task 1

1. Put on & remove a double bridle.
2. Fit a double bridle.
3. Practice arranging the double reins for leading the horse.
4. Analyse the fit & condition of the double bridle.

Where possible, practice this task on different horses using different types of double bits.

Task 2

1. Practice putting on and fitting a dressage saddle correctly.
2. Analyse the fit & condition of the saddle.

Task 3

1. Put on exercise bandages at the correct tension.
2. Remove exercise bandages proficiently.
3. Put on polo bandages, without padding, at the correct tension.
4. Remove polo bandages proficiently.

Task 4

1. Tack up a horse for jumping, using a variety of bits.
2. Practice putting on & fitting a jumping saddle correctly.
3. Analyse the fit & condition of the jumping tack.

Task 5

1. Fit an over-girth onto a jumping saddle.
2. Put on & fit a 5 point breastplate.
3. Put on & fit jumping boots.
4. Secure cross country boots, using the correct tape.

Task 6

1. Practice fitting different types of saddles, including:
   • GP saddle.
   • Dressage saddle.
   • Jumping saddle.

Task 7 - Revision:

To ensure you are well prepared for this exam, also practice these tasks in addition to tasks 1-6. These topics have been covered in either Equine Knowledge stage 1 or stage 2 courses.
