Once you have completed Conformation you will be able to:

  • Understand the difference between static and dynamic conformation.

  • Perform an assessment to evaluate the horse's conformation. 

  • Evaluate the good and bad points on the horse's body during static conformation.

  • Discuss and analyse hoof conformation and foot balance.

  • Explain possible effects on the horse when static conformation is incorrect.

  • Analyse the horse during dynamic conformation, including:

    • describing and evaluating the horse's natural gaits. 

    • assessing different faults in the action and the possible effects they may have on the horse.

  • Evaluate other relevant factors when assessing a horse's conformation, including: 

    • muscle formation.

    • age.

    • condition.

    • breed and type.

    • suitability for work.

  • Discuss different types and purpose of shoes and pads, including:

    • concave fullered shoe.

    • plain stamped shoe.

    • natural balance shoe.

    • heart bar shoes.

    • egg bar shoes.

    • rolled toes.

    • racing plates.

    • glue-on shoes.

    • different types of pads.
